Works in this section were exhibited sometime
between 2015 and 2019. They remain available.
In hopes of making them unavailable, I'd like to use an approach I’ve been hoping to use for some time now: chance. HERE’s how it works:

X

1.
If you think you might like to purchase one (perhaps more) of these works, first contact the gallery with any questions you might have. If from there you decide you’d like to purchase one (perhaps more) of these works....

2.
The artist will coordinate a video call with you in which you roll a digital die a number of times (see #s 4 thru 7 below). Die rolling can also be done in person (with the artist, or a proxy), masked and gloved and outdoors (unless both parties choose to forego some/all of the precautions). You will each have at least one die and you will both test dice in order to feel confident an agreed-upon die is not loaded.

3.
When both parties are ready to continue, a written commitment is electronically sent by purchaser to artist in which purchaser agrees to purchase the work no matter what the rolled die declares.

4.
e-commitment received by artist, it’s time to roll. The first roll of the die determines whether the owner will pay more or less than the price listed for the work. Rolling an odd number means the price will be more. Rolling an even number means the price will be less.

5.
The second roll of the die will determine how much will be added-to or subtracted-from the work’s listed price. For example, rolling a 2 means 20% above/below the listed price; rolling a 3 means 30% above/below the listed price; rolling a 4 means 40% above/below the listed price; etc.

6.
If the purchaser is displeased with the second roll, they can further try their luck by rolling the die a third time. If choosing to roll a third time, this commits them to a fourth roll as well. Third roll: if a 2, 3, or 5 is rolled, the purchaser is granted a further discount. If a 1, 4, or 6 is rolled, it commits them to an augmented price.

7.
You probably get the gist, but just to be certain… Here are four scenarios that illustrate potential progress from first to fourth rolls:

1A. An artwork is listed at $20,000. The purchaser rolled a 4 initially, then rolled a 2; this resulted in 20% off the listed price, i.e. $16,000. The purchaser would like to pay less than that, asks to roll again, and rolls a 3 guaranteeing a further discount—a fourth roll ensues. With the fourth roll, the purchaser rolls a 3. This means 30% off the $16,000. The final price is $11,800.

1B. Same artwork, $20,000. Same first two rolls: 4, 2; 20% off listed price, i.e. $16,000. The purchaser would like to pay less, asks to roll again, and rolls a 4 guaranteeing a price increase—a fourth roll is now required. With the fourth roll, the purchaser rolls a 5. This means 50% added to the $16,000. So the final price is $24,000.

2A. Same artwork, $20,000. The purchaser rolled a 3 initially, then rolled a 5; this means 50% more than the original price, i.e. $30,000. The purchaser would very much prefer to pay less and asks to roll again. A 2 is rolled and a fourth roll follows—a 4 is rolled. The purchaser now gets 40% off $30,000. The final price is $18,000.

2B. Same artwork, $20,000. The purchaser rolls a 3 initially, then rolls a 5; this means 50% more than the original price, i.e. $30,000. The purchaser would prefer to pay less and asks to roll the die again. A 6 is rolled; the required fourth roll is a 3. That’s 30% on top of $30,000. The final price is $39,000.

8. Payment is expected within 30 calendar days.

No matter the result, the artist will donate 25% of a sale www.robinhood.org

SUBSTITUTIONS: Italy

DIMENSIONS VARIABLE

UNIQUE

$22,000

Following the logic of Substitutions*, the work presents a map of Italy.**

*Substitutions asks people to choose a commonly recognized*** visual(izable) pattern/model/standard, e.g. the July calendar, a philharmonic orchestra, the constellation Aquarius, the World Cup tourney bracket. Once someone selects a pattern/model/standard, they then choose 𝑥**** distinct things***** as substitutes for each element in the visual(izable) pattern/model/standard.******

**A regional map. Details can be seen here.
***I.e. recognizable/understood by many people around the world, even if not a majority of people.
****𝑥 = the number of discrete constituent elements of the pattern/model/standard (e.g. there are 20 regions of Italy; 𝑥 = 20 in the Substitution pictured above). So, there should be 20 distinct things to substitute-for.
*****Thing being anything one can understand as (a) substantive, i.e. noun.
******E.g. a tennis ball substituted for July 9, a shark tooth for July 24; a banana leaf for the 5th cellist, a used toilet brush for the timpanist; a culvert pipe for Albali, a Moana poster for Bunda; a cushion embroidered with the words “REAL TIME” for Nigeria, a moldy marshmallow for Iceland.

20 AUDIO FILES

DIMENSIONS VARIABLE

$20,000

The work is the twenty audio files that transfer to the owner with purchase of the work, as well as files the work’s owner can make following the parenthetic instructions below*. Each of the twenty audio files (re)presents a Vs., as in competition/contra-. Accordingly each file comes paired with/contra another file. Files/pairs are identified in detail in the PDF that comes with the 20 audio files upon purchase of the work. (They’re also identified in name here.)

Each file should be played from its own [loud]speaker. Any working speaker will do. Though not all twenty speakers need to be the same, identical speakers are recommended for a file pair. Playing an a-file without its b-file is strongly discouraged. Playing multiple pairs simultaneously is often recommended. Files played simultaneously should be played at equal volumes.

*(The owner of the work can create additional audio files based on Vs. of their choosing. When creating additional audio files, the following should be kept in mind:

Each of the work’s original twenty audio files were created by mixing previously recorded+published songs—based on song title—together. In the above-mentioned PDF, each of the twenty (re)presented Vs. groups/”teams” has a name (e.g. Hearst) under which all the group/”team” members are listed.. Each listed member represents the title of a recorded+published song***—not a part of a title, the full title—this is key.

To create additional Vs.: once song[-title]s are found and chosen to complete a Vs. group/”team”, these songs should be mixed together as evenly/balanced as possible. Following these instructions, an opponent group/”team” should then be created. The finished pair of audio files should then be added to the original twenty audio files of the work and all additional Vs. audio files created.)

(***Most commonly a pop**** song, but not restricted to pop.
****Pop meaning “popular,” not the (sub)genre “pop” specifically, although this (sub)genre was often used when creating the original twenty files.)
